BUNNELL – A Flagler County Jury took just under 50 minutes to convict a Palm Coast man of Robbery with a Weapon, Kidnapping with a Weapon, Battery, Burglary with Assault or Battery, and Burglary while Armed. Giuseppe Verdone, Jr., 23, will face a mandatory life sentence at a sentencing hearing set for July 15, 2015 at 3:00pm at the Flagler County Courthouse. Prosecutors will seek to have Verdone classified as a Prison Releasee Reoffender, which will trigger a mandatory life sentence.

Evidence at trial showed that Verdone arranged a fraudulent Chinese food order from a restaurant in Palm Coast. When the delivery driver arrived, Verdone carjacked the driver, stole the car, and threw the Victim from the moving vehicle to the road all while armed. The Victim sustained life-threatening injuries but ultimately recovered.

Assistant State Attorney Christina Opsahl, of the State Attorney’s Office Career Criminal Unit, prosecuted the case. Seventh Circuit Judge David Walsh presided over the case and will pronounce sentence.
