Sowers Convicted of Capital Sexual Battery – Sentenced to Two Consecutive Life Terms

 

DAYTONA BEACH – A Volusia County Jury deliberated late into the evening of October 10, 2018, before convicting Henry Sowers, 65, of Capital Sexual Battery, following a two-day trial that ran until 6pm. Following the guilty verdicts, Circuit Judge Kathryn Weston sentenced Sowers to two consecutive life sentences. Sowers does not have the possibility of early release.

 

            On January 1, 2016, Sowers performed oral sex on a child. Following the sex act, Sowers purchased Yu-Gi-Oh cards in an attempt to keep the child from disclosing the sexual battery. However, the child Victim in this case courageously disclosed the battery to law enforcement.

 

            Sowers has two prior convictions for possession of controlled substances but no other criminal history.

 

            Assistant State Attorney Kevin Sullivan, of the State Attorney’s Career Criminal Unit, prosecuted the case. Circuit Judge Kathryn Weston presided over the case and pronounced sentence. The defendant represented himself in the case.
