Career Criminal Initiative

The State Attorney's Office elite Career Criminal Unit was created by a Mutual Aid Agreement signed with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, the Daytona Beach Police Department, the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, and the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.

It is a bold initiative designed to give law enforcement a shared approach to targeting the “worst of the worst” repeat and violent felony offenders. The Mutual Aid Agreement calls for embedded investigators from the VCSO, the DBPD, the SJSO, and the PCSO to work directly with the Assistant State Attorneys who will be prosecuting these cases.

The investigators join a team of Assistant State Attorneys and State Attorney Investigators dedicated solely to prosecuting these serious cases.

This agreement further enhances the career criminal unit designated by Florida Statute 775.0841 and established by Mr. Larizza upon taking office in 2009.

By removing the most violent repeat offenders from our community, we eliminate their ability to influence and recruit others to engage in criminal activity and also protect our citizens from intimidation and further threat of violence.
