St. Johns County Defendant Convicted of Two Counts of Capital Sexual Battery

ST. AUGUSTINE – After two-day trial this afternoon, a St. Johns County jury found defendant George Moody guilty as charged of two counts of Sexual Battery on Person less than 12 years of age and Lewd/Lascivious Molestation on Person less than 12 years of age. Immediately following the verdict, the defendant was sentenced to life in prison.

“Our child victim was raped repeatedly over a period of approximately 16 months,” State Attorney R.J. Larizza said about the case. “She was 5 years old when the abuse began and she will suffer the scars of the repeated abuse for the rest of her life.”

The case was investigated by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant State Attorneys Kaitlyn Payne and Eric Leb successfully tried the case for the state. The Honorable Lee Smith presided over the case and pronounced sentence.
