DOB: 09/28/1990
Case Number: 2020 302465 CFDB
Second Defendant Convicted in Daytona Beach First-Degree Murder Case
DAYTONA BEACH – At the conclusion of a two-day trial this afternoon, a Volusia County jury found defendant Willie Walker guilty as charged of First-Degree Murder, Attempted Robbery with a Firearm and Possession of a Firearm by Convicted In-State Felon. The defendant was then sentenced to two consecutive life sentences immediately following the verdict.
On May 11, 2020, Walker and his co-defendant got out of a vehicle in the parking lot of a Daytona Beach business on International Speedway Blvd. They attempted to steal the backpack of the third vehicle occupant before the defendants took out revolvers and shot him two times. The victim later died from his injuries at the hospital.
Walker’s co-defendant, Andrew Burgman, was also convicted by a jury in November 2022 and was sentenced to life in prison for the crimes.
“Another drug-related murder, another young victim dies and both defendants serving life sentences,” State Attorney R.J. Larizza said of the case. “A just outcome for a sad and tragic criminal episode.”
The case was investigated by the Daytona Beach Police Department. Assistant State Attorneys Ashley Terwilleger and Sarah Thomas successfully tried the case for the state. The Honorable Karen Foxman presided over the case and pronounced sentence.
