St. Johns County Man Convicted in Child Sex Abuse Case
ST. AUGUSTINE – After a one-day trial this afternoon, a St. Johns County jury found defendant Andrew Shepherd guilty as charged of Lewd or Lascivious Molestation by a person 18 years of age or older on a victim less than 12 years of age.
“We are in the justice business,” State Attorney R.J. Larizza said about the case.“Holding defendants accountable is one way we make justice a reality for our victims and the citizens of the 7th Circuit. This case is an example of how we do it.”
The case was investigated by the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office. Assistant State Attorneys Kaitlyn Payne and James Nealis successfully tried the case for the state. The Honorable Lee Smith presided over the case and will pronounce sentence Sept 1, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. Shepherd faces up to life in prison for the crime.
