Volusia County Defendant Convicted for Attempted Carjacking, Sentenced to Prison

DAYTONA BEACH – After a one-day trial and only 20 minutes of deliberation this afternoon, a Volusia County jury found defendant Erester Ashford guilty as charged of Burglary of an Occupied Conveyance, Attempted Carjacking and Assault. Immediately following the verdict, the defendant was sentenced as a Prison Releasee Reoffender to 15 years in prison.

On June 7, 2022, the defendant was at a ranch off of Tomoka Farms Road in Daytona Beach where he was actively going from vehicle to vehicle in an attempt to steal one or force a driver to take him to Gainesville before he was arrested.

The case was investigated by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office and Daytona Beach Police Department. Assistant State Attorney Kevin Sullivan successfully tried the case for the state. The Honorable Kathryn Weston presided over the case and pronounced sentence.
