State of Florida v. Derease Londell Irons
DOB: 6/6/1991
Clerk Number: 2016 304516 CFDB
Irons sentenced to life plus 30 years for rape, kidnapping
DAYTONA – A Daytona Beach man was sentenced to two concurrent life sentences followed by three 30-year sentences for three counts of sexual battery, one count of kidnapping, and one count of witness tampering. The sentence was rendered by Circuit Judge Matthew M. Foxman.
In 2016, Derease Londell Irons kidnapped the victim, brought the victim to his house, put the victim in a room, and spray-painted the room’s windows black. Over the course of several days, Irons repeatedly raped the victim. Finally, when Irons left the home, the victim was able to find the victim’s phone and send the pinned location to the victim’s mother. The mother drove to the house and picked the victim up. Once safely home, they alerted law enforcement of what happened. Irons also attempted to stop the victim from testifying in a deposition.
Assistant State Attorneys John Reid and Andy Urbanak prosecuted the case and Judge Foxman presided over the case. A Volusia County jury convicted Irons in August 2019.
State Attorney R.J. Larizza had this to say about the case: “The defendant kidnapped, raped and terrorized our Child Victim. The life sentence imposed by the court is well deserved. The defendant will no longer be a danger to our community.”
